Livestock and Urban Development Can Coexist
De Witt
Below is an aerial view of a farm in DeKalb County. The original pig barns were built in the 1990s. These barns currently house approximately 3,000 market hogs and 1,000 nursery pigs. You'll notice to the left there is a subdivision, located less than one-half mile west of the farm, that was constructed in the 2000s. This subdivision chose to develop next to the farm and there have been no EPA complaints or problems associated with this farm, since. Urban development and livestock farms can easily coexist, as proven here.
