Over 1 Million Pounds of Pork Donated
12.13.2022
December was an incredible month for our Pork Power program! On December 1st, IPPA president elect, Chad Leman, was joined by Illinois Corn Marketing Board Director, Dale Haudrich, as well as staff members from the Illinois Pork Producers Association, the Illinois Corn Growers Association & The Illinois Soybean Association at Midwest Food Bank in Bloomington-Normal to donate over 11,000 pounds of pork processed by Steidinger Foods. This monumental donation put IPPA on the road to reaching its goal of donating 1 MILLION pounds of pork to local food banks by the end of the year! On December 13th, IPPA president, Thomas Titus was joined by IPPA board and staff, as well as Kris Sterbinsky of Turasky Meats and staff from the Illinois Soybean Association to make a donation of over 8,900 lbs of ground pork to the Central Illinois Food Bank! This donation helped us shatter our goal of donating over ONE MILLION LBS of pork to 9 local food banks since the inception of the Pork Power program in 2008. "When the Pork Power Program was started in 2008, it was by a handful of producers who donated a few hogs here and there," says Thomas Titus, IPPA president. "I can’t imagine that anyone could have imagined how wildly successful it would become! We are grateful for our partnerships with all of the associations involved in the Pork Power Program; we reached this goal largely because of their generosity." We like to thank the Illinois Corn Growers Association, the Illinois Soybean Association, Compeer Financial, Farmweld, The Illinois Association of Meat Processors and the Knox County Pork Producers for their generous sponsorships, as well as Turasky Meats, Schubert’s Packing, Eickman’s Packing, Raber Packing, Country Village Meats, & Steidinger Meats for helping with processing.
