Responsible To:                   

Executive Director


Oversees communication efforts and media relations. Responsible for all communication efforts of the association including news releases, newsletter development, e-newsletters, create photo and video opportunities and a detailed social media plan that advances IPPA positions, its members, and the industry as a whole.


  • Develops grassroots and paid communication plan to influence proactive news coverage, producer interviews and feature story opportunities on behalf of the Association
  • Works with ag and traditional media to build awareness of the industry
  • Monitors and tracks news coverage of pork and agricultural issues
  • Coordinates Youth Programming efforts including the Illinois Livestock Leadership Institute, the birthing center at the Illinois State Fair, sponsorships, scholarship programs, State Fair youth events and Youth Day outreach
  • Coordinates the Education/Youth Committee
  • Manages the summer pork ambassador
  • Works with current and potential advertisers for newsletter insertion to maintain and build revenue
  • Responsible for teacher education programming for the association, including Ag in the Classroom and high school food service program
  • Assists in maintaining the IPPA website
  • Assists in the operation of the Illinois State Fair Pork Patio and coordinates all media


Required Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or related discipline or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, or work experience. Must possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills. Individual should possess computer skills including word processing, power point, and database management. Strong familiarity with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and You Tube. Preferable knowledge of design platforms, specifically Adobe Cloud programs.


Work Environment:

The position is located in Springfield, Illinois. In-state and some occasional out-of-state travel will be required.

Work Hours:
This is a full time, salaried position. Traditional work hours with flexibility for in office and work from home will apply. There will also be some evening or weekend commitments with advance notification.
