Mitch and Christine Niemerg celebrated the opening of their new 2,400
head wean to market hog barn near Dieterich, Ill. in Effingham County
by hosting an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on September 4th.
Mitch is a third generation farmer and will be contracting with Borgic
Farms. Sponsors of this event included: IPPA, the Pork Checkoff, Borgic
Farms, Effingham County Farm Bureau, FS Total Livestock Services,
DM Mfg., Maximus Controller & Culver’s of Effingham. More than 175
people attended the event and enjoyed the cool breeze of the ventilation
fans on an unseasonably warm day, along with Culver’s custard served in
the building. Pork Chops on a Stick and pork burgers were also cooked
and served by FS Total Livestock.
Open houses are a very positive experience for all that are involved.
IPPA has dollars to defray the cost of the event and coordinates all the
details of the event for the producer. IPPA strongly encourages any
producer building a new barn to consider having an Open House.
